Osdag is a cross-platform free/libre and open-source software for the design (and detailing) of steel structures, following the Indian Standard IS 800:2007. It allows the user to design steel connections, members and systems using a graphical user interface. The interactive GUI provides a 3D visualisation of the designed component and an option to export the CAD model to any drafting software for the creation of construction/fabrication drawings. The design is typically optimised following industry best practices.
Osdag is primarily developed using Python and other Python-based FOSS/FLOSS tools, such as PyQt, OpenCascade, PythonOCC, and PyLaTeX, with SQLite for managing steel section databases.
Launched under the FOSSEE project with Prof. Siddhartha Ghosh, IIT Bombay, as the Principal Investigator, Osdag represents a pioneering effort to promote the use of Free/Libre and Open Source Software (FOSS/FLOSS) in academia, research and practice. The project is currently funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, as part of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT).
Osdag is currently under active development, with the latest version downloadable from its website.
