OSHI is the Open Source Healing Initiative (also meaning “Friend, that supports” in Japanese). We’re a Social Network & Recovery Incubator – Matching lived experience and energy where needed and developing bespoke plans in support of meaningful human connection and healing. We’re a Social Change Agency in utilising and combining tech and the human heart in innovating new ways of providing best value by creating new approaches in place of tired, inefficient, poor value, status quo systems. Our methods are celebrated and published in the British Medical Journal as an example of patient led innovation.
We began as a project connecting those in recovery from alcohol misuse with those desperately seeking help to change with 1 volunteer doing the rounds in Hull Royal Infirmary and have rapidly grown to 50+ volunteers; serving the people of Hull, East Yorkshire and beyond in supporting life-saving changes for those in addiction, suffering with mental health as well as for their friends, loved ones and families. We combine OSHI Care Coaching, delivered by real people who have overcome adversity, in conjunction with professional therapy and individualised holistic treatment.
We also deliver training, education and consultancy to organisations looking to enhance how they approach addiction & mental health in the work-place, focusing on challenging stigma and ensuring appropriate support structures are in place to navigate and support staff, students, clients, etc.
We will never charge a person in need for our service.
