Outside The Box Speech Language

Outside the Box provides the following services in speech-language and educational support for children with communication, social and behavioural difficulties commonly including: • Expressive language: vocabulary development, sentence construction and conversation skills. • Receptive language: The ability to follow instructions, answer questions, and understand words and stories. • Articulation: pronunciation and understanding of speech sounds. • Fluency: rhythm and flow of speech sound production. • Pre-literacy: Development of skills identified as predictors of reading ability: vocabulary, narrative skills, phonological awareness, and letter knowledge. • Literacy: Sound awareness for reading and spelling, reading comprehension and writing skills. • Play and Social Communication Skills: The child’s interactions between family and friends, as well as the use of verbal and non-verbal communication skills, such as speaking, gestures, facial expression, body language, and personal space. • Alternative and augmentative communication: communication performed in ways other than speech.
