P.E. Mediterranean Acoustics Research & Development Ltd

Mediterranean Acoustics Research & Development was set up by Panos Economou founder and Managing Director of Panacoustics Ltd, an Acoustics consultancy, which was established in Cyprus in 1982 specialising in Building Acoustics, Room Acoustics and Noise Control. Panos Economou obtained a BSc (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, at the Polytechnic of Central London, and then an MSc in Applied Acoustics at Chelsea College in London. He is a member of the Institute of Acoustics (IOA), the Acoustical Society of America (ASA), the Audio Engineering Society (AES), Hellenic Institute of Acoustics (HELINA), and the Cyprus Technical Chamber (ETEK). Between 1990 and 1992, he was a Principal Engineer at the Noise and Vibration Department at WS Atkins Ltd (now Atkins), in Epsom, UK, in charge of Architectural Acoustics. He is also the General Secretary of the Nicolas Economou Foundation, a non-profit cultural organisation, for which he was responsible for organising all it’s musical events including an annual four day music festival. He is a drummer and has headed and participated in many local Jazz groups since 1986. His background as a performer, organiser and acoustician enables him to design performing spaces from all these points of view. Since Panos lives in Cyprus, a Mediterranean Island, he decided to call the company Mediterranean Acoustics Research & Development to demonstrate that small countries like his can be not only a beautiful holiday resort, but can also produce highly sophisticated scientific work as well. Mediterranean Acoustics is currently developing a suite of Acoustical software called “Olive Tree Lab” which will encompass most of the fields acoustics consultants and other disciplines professionals need to deal with in their everyday work. “Olive Tree Lab” offers users a virtual lab in which they can experiment. They can study the effects project parameters could have on the outcome of their design.
