“Paediatric & Neonatal Decision-based Assessment (P&NDA®) is a System of Works designed by to increase confidence & reduce cognitive loading for low-volume, high-acuity, paediatric clinical assessments, that enhance standard guidelines with appropriate equipment, in the pre-hospital emergency care environment.” Current Course Designs: An Introduction to P&NDA® (2 Hours) P&NDA® Fundamentals (1-day) P&NDA® Essentials (2-days, Inc. Fundamentals) Red P&NDA® (3-days) Children hold special status in the PHEC environment, possibly not because of perceived innocence, but virtue of the fact the paramedic is aware of worldly threats to all. Many clinicians have limited experience in paediatric presentations, and despite the belief of high-acuity presentations, they account for less than 6% of ambulance attendances. Cognitive loading can be countered with adequate initial training, and CPD, as well as the learned skills of appropriate paediatric equipment, increasing confidence in all aspects of paediatric prehospital emergency care. P&NDA® does not seek to replace established guidelines or best practices, but instead create critical thinking to reduce cognitive loading. As a result of identified themes, P&NDA® training recognises five key principles. P&NDA® is based on the following ideology: At the core of the practice of acute paediatrics is an underlying conundrum, the chance of serious disease is low but the consequences of not treating specific illnesses are devastating, (Roland & Snelson, 2019). The Paediatric Assessment Triangle (PAT) should be completed before any paediatric assessment, so that the individual can recognise the critical child, placing them into one of six categories of intervention. This is completed before the physiological and anatomical primary survey as there are too many vital signs to remember.
