Packaging has a vital role in many different industries such as foods, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, electronics, e-commerce, and many other industrial and consumer products. The Packaging Engineering Technician program provides training in the science, structural design, development, and processes relating to the application of packaging. Students will develop a proficiency in the principals of packaging, through understanding the discipline related to the various packaging materials: metal, glass, plastic, paperboard and corrugated. Students will gain the ability to identify the critical aspects that need to be considered such as industry requirements, guidelines, sustainability challenges and what functionalities the package needs to fulfill. Through the ability to identify the required needs, the students will learn how to engineer the appropriate package to obtain the desired outcomes. Students will get the opportunity to apply the theory of packaging learned, through various hands on activities within the program. They will test different packaging materials, using state of the art testing equipment. The students will also be trained to use different types of packaging software, while also getting the opportunity to create pro types of their unique designs.
