The UMF was founded in January 2001 with the objective of promoting the benefits of umbilical products for the offshore oil and gas industry. The organisation seeks to build and improve upon the established high levels of quality, reliability and safety of umbilical products.
We seek to increase the industry's interaction with umbilical products by:

- Establishment and encourage international programs for the purpose of advancing the use of umbilicals and promoting increased security and safety in umbilical systems.
- Promotion and monitoring trends in design and usage of umbilicals.
- Analysing and collation of international statistical data of interest to the umbilical industry and provision of analysis results to our members.
- Developing and improving contacts to related industries about the above.
