Palacio do Grilo

The Palácio do Grilo or Duque de Lafões Palace is a unique place, open to the public. In this space visitors are invited to enjoy a meal or simply have a drink, as well as stroll through the garden and experience the unique atmosphere of its interior. This palace has a particular history, being the only one in Lisbon that has remained intact for 350 years. It was originally intended to be a kingdom of dreams. (see history) Three centuries later, a group of European intellectuals, architects and artists reconstituted the original ideals of the project... The team that runs the palace and its restaurant is made up of actors, and the whole place is set up like a theater stage. Visitors are projected into a "living film" where a set of set elements, a simple object, unexpected action or performance can affect the senses through sound, light, costumes, atmospheres or attitudes... This team's improbable performances challenge the limits of everyday life. What is taken for granted as a fact in our everyday lives is simply abolished; what was linear ceases to be, what was red becomes blue. This project deconstructs the importance of reality and social norms, incorporating in its essence the unexpected, the absurd, and the oneiric. Palácio do Grilo is a cultural, touristic and leisure destination of unavoidable interest. The space is suitable for all audiences and families and will be open throughout the day for those who wish to enjoy it.
