The first draft of humankind’s DNA took 13 years of hard effort at a cost of ~$3 billion. Today, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) has made a big revolution in understanding of our DNA. With new advances in the technology, we are now able to sequence a human genome in less than a few days. As the costs of sequencing are going down, the applications of NGS now range from diagnosis of inherited disorders to sequencing the human microbiome and treatment of cancer.
