About Patricia Herber
I am the author and illustrator of Butterflies, Bears, and Other Poems for Children—a poetry collection crafted to ignite imagination, foster emotional development, and strengthen language skills in early learners. Drawing from my 32-year teaching career, I developed this book alongside a comprehensive Teachers Pack and Course Pack, now used by educators, parents, and literacy programs alike. My work integrates poetry, lesson plans, creative writing activities, coloring pages, and podcast resources, aligning with educational standards for children aged 4 to 10. It is designed to inspire creativity, support vocabulary acquisition, and promote reading fluency in both classroom and home learning environments. Before my publishing journey, I spent over three decades in education: Graduated with honors from Shippensburg State College, PA, in 1975 (B.S. in Elementary Education, English sequence) Earned a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Penn State University in 1980 Certified to teach grades K–8 Spent 32 years teaching, including 30 consecutive years in first grade Selected for the 8th edition of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers in 2004 Retired from Pine Grove Area School District, PA, in 2007 My goal is to create learning tools that not only teach but bring joy—resources that children remember with warmth and educators rely on with confidence.
