Penguinradio is a linux-based streaming media company established in 1999 by Andrew Leyden and Duncan Wood, two former counsels to the House Energy & Commerce Committee -- the committee with jurisdiction over telecommunications and Internet-related legislation -- and Mike Fortier, a prominent Washington lobbyist and investor. Penguinradio, alongside two silicon valley companies (Kerbango & Sonicbox) pioneered the development and delivery of streaming audio to internet appliances and mobile phones and developed one of the earliest podcast directories. PenguinRadio merged with Wavesonix Ltd in 2006.
