About Penn ADAPT

Penn Assistive Devices and Prosthetic Technologies (ADAPT) is a group of students at the University of Pennsylvania who are passionate about assistive and rehabilitative technologies. With a range of backgrounds and skills, we work to design, build and improve assistive devices for individuals living with disabilities, including cerebral palsy and limb loss. We aim to apply the skills we learn at Penn from many disciplines, such as engineering and business, to create impactful projects that engage outside communities. Our Mission Statement: To create, design, and implement cutting-edge assistive devices and prosthetic technologies for people living with disabilities. Our Story: In their senior year of undergraduate study, the founders of ADAPT recognized a need for affordable prosthetic limbs and devices. Matthew Lisle, with the help of Dayo Adewole, Adrian Lievano, Freddy Hernandez, and Aadu Prakash, collaborated to form the club now known as ADAPT in order to develop and deliver a prosthetic arm to a child in need. Months of hard work in both the spheres of both engineering and administration laid the foundation for the club to grow fruitfully. The initial prosthetic arm was improved continuously over the initial years of the club as we expanded our reach to include collaboration with the HMS School for Cerebral Palsy and elsewhere in Penn Engineering. ADAPT now sits poised to take the lessons learned from their period of birth to other projects in the realm of assistive devices and prosthetic technology.
