The Penn brainSTIM Center provides leadership, education, and critical infrastructure in order to enhance ongoing investigations and to spur new collaborative neuromodulation research that aims to better understand and enhance the capacities of the human brain, and to repair brain function across a range of brain disorders including depression, anxiety, stroke, and dementia. Our researchers employ a comprehensive array of research techniques that include powerful electrical and magnetic brain stimulation tools, innovative behavioral approaches in both animal and human models, and world class neuroimaging and network analytic methodologies.
Roy Hamilton (MD, MS), Director, leads a multidisciplinary coalition of faculty members whose groundbreaking work spans the fields of neurology, psychiatry, neurosurgery, neurorehabilitation, biomedical engineering, psychology, cognitive neuroscience, and animal research, to create an unparalleled platform for advancing cutting edge science that translates into new discoveries and treatments. With laboratories housed in three clinical departments of Penn Medicine (Neurology, Psychiatry, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation), the Penn School of Arts & Sciences, School of Engineering, and The Wharton School, the brainSTIM Center is a cross-cutting network ideally situated to foster research collaboration across Penn and other institutions around the globe.
