PERA - Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority

The Punjab Enforcement and Regulatory Authority (PERA) was established through the enactment of the Punjab Enforcement and Regulation Act, 2024 by the Government of Punjab. The primary objective of PERA is to streamline regulatory measures across Punjab, ensuring more effective enforcement of special laws while promoting transparency, compliance, and good governance. Key Objectives of PERA: 1. Unified Enforcement Framework: Establishes a central authority to coordinate enforcement under various special laws, eliminating jurisdictional overlaps. 2. Regulatory Efficiency: Enhances cooperation among existing regulatory agencies to improve service delivery and legal compliance. 3. Field Operations: Sets up Enforcement Stations across Punjab to manage field operations and ensure law enforcement at the grassroots level. 4. Public Welfare: Aims to create a compliant society through effective regulation and public service delivery. Organizational Structure: Chairperson: Chief Minister, Punjab Vice Chairperson: Chief Secretary, Punjab Director General: Head of the Authority responsible for operations and implementation. Members: Senior officials from departments like Home, Police, Finance, Local Government, and independent members from civil society. Key Functions: Enforcement of special laws across Punjab. Monitoring compliance and penalizing violations. Coordination with law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies. Managing District Enforcement and Regulatory Boards for localized governance. Handling administrative, non-judicial enforcement actions. Recruitment and Operations: PERA recruits Enforcement Officers (BS-14) and Investigation Officers (BS-11) to strengthen its field operations. A structured recruitment process involving physical tests, written exams, psychological assessments, and medical evaluations ensures transparency and meritocracy.
