An industrial accident early in his career left him sidelined with lower back injury and frustrated with the inability to find sustainable pain relief from conventional therapy. That’s when he realized there was no consistent process to “fixing” a human mechanical problem other than the ‘try this therapy and if it doesn’t work maybe try that other kind’ approach.
