Perfume is a mixture of fragrant essential oils and liquid solvents to spread out a pleasing scent. Extrait de parfum, also known as "pure perfume" comprises 15–40% aromatic compounds. Eau de parfum (EdP) generally sold as "perfume" comprises 10–20% aromatic compounds. Eau de toilette (EdT) comprises 5–15% aromatic compounds. Most male fragrances come from this category. Eau de Cologne (EdC) also just called cologne comprises 3–8% aromatic compounds. Eau fraiche comprises 3% or less aromatic compounds diluted with water rather than oil or alcohol. Perfume oils are often diluted with a solvent. The most common solvent for perfume-oil dilution is alcohol. They can also be diluted by means of neutral-smelling oils like coconut oil or jojoba oil.
