After more than 15 years as a complex commercial trial lawyer, Kent Modesitt founded Persuasion by Design, Ltd., a legal visual design firm, to solve the existing disconnect between lawyers and graphics designers.
We as lawyers seek above all to persuade. If we do, we win. As a complex commercial trial lawyer, I learned that demonstratives persuade significantly better (studies show 58% better) than written or verbal communication alone. But the process of producing demonstratives was mired in the time and money inefficiencies inherent with using non-lawyers to express often complex legal concepts and multifaceted fact patterns.
More concerning, the final products suffered from a focus on distracting design aesthetics as the end goal, rather than the goal of persuasion. So I obtained training in the leading professional design software, began designing visuals for my own practice, and then expanded to design demonstratives for my partners. I ultimately founded Persuasion by Design to provide a legal visual design firm—for lawyers, by lawyers.
Prior to forming PxD, I spent over 15 years as a national complex commercial trial and appellate lawyer with Reilly Pozner LLP (2001-2014) and Jones & Keller P.C. (2014-2016). Some of my accomplishments include:

Outside of my design and law experiences, I am a wood and ironwork artist as owner of Sedition Design Ltd. I am also an avid motorcyclist and outdoor adventurist, including completing with my brother, Brad, a three-month, 2400-mile canoe expedition from Colorado to New Orleans atop the Poudre, Platte, Missouri, and Mississippi rivers.
