The Laboratory of Pervasive Electromagnetism (LEP) was founded approximately 20 years ago with the ambition of bringing electromagnetic field technology directly to physical objects, industrial processes, and human health. This aligns with the paradigm now known as the Internet of Things (IoT). In our vision, typical electromagnetism devices such as radiating and receiving systems are integrated into the very fabric of things, becoming one with them and transforming them into data generators.
To achieve this unity between matter and information, Electromagnetic Engineering interacts with Materials Science, Electronics, as well as Mechanics, Chemistry, Medicine, and more recently, Artificial Intelligence. Over the course of 20 years, LEP has pioneered innovations in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) with a specific focus on wireless sensing in industrial, environmental, and medical fields. This includes groundbreaking work on skin-integrated biosensors, cyber prosthetics with self-diagnostic capabilities, wireless digital surfaces capable of acquiring data and detecting anomalies, and, more recently, conductor-free flexible antennas created with laser engraving.
Throughout this journey, LEP has also spawned the spin-off RADIO6ENSE (www.radio6ense.com), which has been leveraging research results for over 10 years in the automotive, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, and biomedical sectors.
This channel aims to share our small innovations, ideas, challenges, and even difficulties, with the hope of inspiring curiosity and synergies among enthusiasts of multidisciplinarity and creativity.
