On 31st December 2019, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to the Petroleum Authority of Brunei Darussalam Act, Chapter 231. The Act provides the establishment of Petroleum Authority of Brunei Darussalam, a statutory body acting as a central authority to regulate and supervise the Upstream, Midstream & Downstream oil and gas operations in Brunei Darussalam.
The establishment of Petroleum Authority marks another important milestone in the development of the oil and gas industry in the Sultanate as it signifies the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s continuous efforts in further realizing the Vision 2035.
Petroleum Authority is the technical arm to the Department of Energy, Prime Minister’s Office advising on matters relevant to the oil and gas industry in Brunei Darussalam to ensure the sustainable development of all hydrocarbon resources and value chain. Petroleum Authority is also responsible in regulating and supervising the oil and gas operations in Brunei Darussalam to further maximize the positive impact to the country. Its long-term vision for the industry revolves around establishing a progressive and resilient industry that is perceptive to the ever-changing market, capable of enhancing the value created to secure the future of the country.
