Looking back at my professional career, I could never have gotten to where I am today without the help of my mentors and coaches. I was privileged to have an incredible group of role models I looked up to for guidance.These people challenged, supported and guided me as I learnt the technical aspects of my roles; My international exposure in the UK, Egypt, and, lately, Russia allowed me to appreciate an already global industry and how it worked in different parts of the world.I quickly learnt that Improving the Business is the Business, and leadership was central in driving this improvement.My leadership journey was built on my technical expertise and the exciting journey leading change as a driver to improving the Business. After a 30+ year career in the Shell Group, I left my "family" in Shell. I joined Serikandi to be closer to my own family and continue supporting Brunei's road to achieving its Vision - Wawasan 2035.As a leader, I learned a few truths about change:1. Aligning Goals is critical; you must constantly check its relevance. 2. Make sure you bring people along.3. Keep it simple so that everyone can relate to it4. You can never over-communicate5. Coaching and Mentoring are vital as people are nervous about change6. Choose your battles!7. You will have enough sceptics - listen to them too!8.
