Peterborough Green Spaces Trust was formed by a passionate group of professionals, academics and residents committed to representing our communities, our public green spaces and protecting them for future generations. Innovative projects are being conceived, devised, and delivered in cities and towns across the UK to tackle climate change, improve public health and reimagine a sense of place in this new age of technological advancement and globalism. As Peterborough embarks on the trajectory of larger cities and looks to sustainably thrive and be noticed, there has been a distinct lack of value, investment, and respect for how open access public green space plays a vital role in the city’s future. With a new university opening it's doors in 2022, this is a time of significant local growth and development for a city whose population has a larger than average proportion of young people, as well as a wealth of diversity and multiculturalism. After many years of welcome economic investment and urban regeneration, Peterborough looks set to welcome a new cohort of students and drives to attract and prepare for young professionals to reside in the City Centre area. There has never been a more important time to consider the balance of growth with the needs of communities and individuals. The Peterborough Green Spaces Trust states 6 aims in our constitution: • To promote the social, cultural and heritage value of community green spaces. • To designate, protect and preserve public owned green spaces. • To promote and support public stewardship of community green spaces. • To act as a visible and vocal stakeholder for community green spaces on behalf of current and future generations. • To encourage the highest standards of public office in local democracy and the decision making about community green spaces. • To work and support local groups and organisations to develop collaborative and intergenerational projects that share skills, knowledge and information.
