Laboratoires Pharma in silica inc. is a preclinical-stage pharmaceutical company located in the Québec City’s Parc Technologique. It aims to market a universal, safe, and affordable precision chemotherapy to major pharmas by 2027. Its mission is to improve the quality and longevity of life for people undergoing chemotherapy, starting with solid tumors. Current chemo often brings limited improvements in survival and remission, in part because it disrupts the immune system, inhibiting the patient's natural ability to neutralize cancer cells. Chemotherapy also imposes painful, long-lasting, and costly side effects (anemia, infections, neurological disorders, discomfort, etc.). Cytotoxic drugs are nevertheless routinely used alongside surgery, radiation, immunotherapy, hormone therapy, and cell-based treatments, generating over $17 billion in annual sales. Shockingly chemotherapy remains one of the most under-studied treatments in oncology: few clinical trials focus on the safety and effectiveness of these treatments, exposing patients to regressive therapeutic methods. Pharma in silica’s scientists are developing a proprietary silica nanocarrier that circulates extensively in the blood without affecting the biological activity of blood cells (red blood cells, neutrophils, HK, CD-8, and other erythrocytes) and delivers large quantities of cytotoxic agents specifically to the tumor. This unprecedented precision is expected to increase treatment efficacy and significantly reduce side effects.
