PAF (FtV in Dutch) was established in 2018 by a group of committed lawyers, doctors and researchers striving to ensure that medicines are available and affordable for everyone. We are the first organization specifically set up to tackle the high prices of medicines through legal procedures.
Vision
Access to essential medicines is a vital component of the human right to health. This right is jeopardised when prices are too high for consumers or the healthcare system. The Pharmaceutical Accountability Foundation tries to achieve fair prices for medicines by invoking the law. Governments have an obligation to promote and comply with this right, including through regulating the behaviour of companies.
The Foundation wants to contribute to a society where the accessibility of safe and active medicines and other medical technologies is guaranteed according to the right to health. In practice, this would be a society in which necessary medicines are available and affordable for everyone who needs them regardless of the nature of illness, ability to pay, place of residence, etc.
Mission
Our mission is to serve the public interest by ensuring that medicines are made available to all people in a socially responsible and sustainable manner. We believe that excessive pricing of medical products infringes on the human right to the highest attainable standard of health. We believe that transparency in medicines markets is a cornerstone of fair pricing and equitable access to medicines, and a key component of democratic societies.
We achieve our mission in the first place through the implementation of legal actions around inexplicably high prices of medicines. Secondly, we provide general information and advice to governments, stakeholders in the policy, and the public.
