Phoenix Smart Batteries

Phoenix Smart Batteries company information, Employees & Contact Information

The demand for batteries in electric mobility, grid energy storage, and consumer electronics is projected to increase tenfold in the next decade. However, for sustainable and European batteries to be developed and utilized, certain improvements are necessary. These advancements include longer cycle life, effective detection and prevention of degradation, recyclability feasibility, and reduced cost. European batteries should prioritize safety, durability, and environmental friendliness by incorporating smart functionalities like sensor integration and self-healing capabilities. To achieve this, the next generation of batteries must integrate these functionalities into the Battery Management System (BMS), which will be responsible for triggering the required features. The PHOENIX project seeks to explore a range of possibilities in self-healing, sensing, and triggering. Sensors and self-healing properties will be prototyped and demonstrated in Generation 3b and 4a Li-Ion batteries as part of this initiative. These outcomes thereby help meet the goal of BATTERY 2030+ for a competitive, sustainable European battery value chain and a more circular economy. This project has received funding from the European Union’s research and innovation programme Horizon Europe under the grant agreement No. 101103702 and the involvement in No. 101104022 (Battery 2030 CSA3).
