Institute for Photonic Quantum Systems (PhoQS)

Welcome to exciting insights into research at the Institute for Photonic Quantum Systems (PhoQS). We also present results from the Transregional Collaborative Research Center TRR 142. The PhoQS facilities combine expertise from the fields of theoretical and experimental physics, mathematics, computer science and electrical engineering. As part of Paderborn University, more than 70 scientists tackle challenges in the field of photonics and quantum research – ranging from fundamental science to applications. The Collaborative Research Centre TRR 142 has been working on the research, development and construction of future nonlinear photonics systems in collaboration between Paderborn University and TU Dortmund University since 2014. We conduct fundamental research and utilise state-of-the-art technological possibilities to research new physical properties and devices based on customised strong nonlinearities and real quantum effects. Our aim is to transfer ground-breaking results from basic research into real-life applications such as quantum communication or quantum computing. By bringing together all relevant disciplines, Paderborn University aims to be recognised as a European powerhouse of research in the field of photonics and quantum technologies.
