PHOS is one of the selected experiments which will have the possibility to fly on board REXUS 18 Sounding Rocket. The team, which is composed by Italian students from the University of Pisa and collaborates with the University of Bergamo, is involved in the design, manufacturing and test phases of the experimental setup for a Pulsating Heat Pipe in order to mount it on a suitable Module.This is an innovative heat transfer device, which is a perfect candidate for future space application. The team must follow stringent design constraints provided by ECSS Standards. The mission is to test in a milli-g environment a Pulsating Heat Pipe having an internal diameter greater than the critical one on Earth, evaluating thermal performances in terms of Heat resistance. In addition the team will provide a comparison with an other PHP mounted on the same Module with and internal diameter smaller than the critical one on ground. The rocket is provided by the REXUS/BEXUS Programme agencies and companies. This allows students from universities and higher education colleges across Europe to carry out scientific and technological experiments on research rockets and balloons. Each year, two rockets and two balloons are launched, carrying up to 20 experiments designed and built by student teams.
