The Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) is an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Major activities of the PIB include among other things organizing training programmes for journalists on different topics, undertaking research projects on various issues of media and mass communication and their impacts on society and publishing books, journals, booklets etc.
The Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) was first conceptualized by the Government of Bangladesh led by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1974. According to the report of the Daily Sangbad, the then government of Bangabandhu had a plan to establish a National Press Institute with a view to enhancing the quality of journalism in the country. With this perspective, PIB was established on the 18th August, 1976 by a resolution vide notification in the Bangladesh Gazette. In 2018, Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) Acr-2018 passed in NAtional Parlaiment and published in the Gazzette on 29 july 2018.
