Picking Me Foundation is a donor-supported nonprofit that spreads awareness and inspires acceptance for Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors- in particular Dermatillomania aka Skin Picking Disorder- for sufferers, supporters, and educational communities alike, encouraging individuals to take control back from the OCD related disorder by sharing why they are #PickingMe over their BFRB.
Picking Me encourages go-getters from all biz and creative and wellness fields to put that energy towards a little know, often misdiagnosed, and life pervasive disorder. We showcase nationwide, have our program implemented in 36 cities and 7 countries, and are the outreach partner for the University of Chicago’s upcoming Body-Focused Repetitive Behavior medical research study. Meaning, we’re in to win it. Lauren, our founder, has suffered from this disorder for over 2 decades and now as the DSM-V has recognized the mental illness, she has turned her “finger energy” away from her body and toward helping others navigate this finicky illness.
