PICMET

PICMET (Portland International Center for Management of Engineering and Technology) was established in 1989 with an objective to support generation and dissemination of knowledge in technology management, worldwide. The primary activity to achieve this objective is the annual international conference. First PICMET Conference was held as PICMET’91 in Portland, OR with a theme of “Technology Management: The New International Language” hosting around 400 attendees from about 30 countries. Since 2004, PICMET has become an annual conference held at different locations in the world bringing together around 600 participants from diverse backgrounds and career levels from about 50 countries. About 70% of the attendees are researchers, educators, graduate students and administrators (Dept. Chairs, Deans, Presidents) from universities, 20% are high level executives at CEO, president, vice president, director levels; and 10% government officials from the Ministry of Science & Technology, the Ministry of Education and gov. R&D organizations. Every aspect of technology and innovation management is discussed by authors of 300+ papers. Recently PICMET was held at Seoul (Korea), Istanbul (Turkey), Cape Town (S. Africa), Phuket (Thailand), Vancouver (Canada), San Jose (California), Kanazawa (Japan) and Honolulu (Hawai’i) in addition to Portland, OR. Today, PICMET communicates with about 13,000 technology management leaders and emerging leaders around the world with conference information and the dissemination of knowledge about research, education and implementation of technology management. PICMET makes a big global impact on technology and innovation management. Many joint research projects have been initiated, research centers and collaborative business partnerships have been formed and educational programs have been started throughout the world with the people initiating these activities frequently explaining that the PICMET Conference was the motivation behind their work.
