About Pierre Capital Journal
The Capital Journal has been in continuous publication since 1881. The Daily Capital Journal purchased the Fort Pierre Times and the Reminder in 1981 from Thompson Publications. In January 1989, as part of a redesign, the name was changed to the Capital Journal. The Capital Journal was owned by the Hipple family spanning four generations prior to the sale in 2005 to Wick Communications. In addition to our print publications we also produce capjournal.com. The Capital Journal’s publisher is Steve Baker. The Capital Journal serves Pierre, Fort Pierre and surrounding communities in central South Dakota.
