Pimas was established in 1963 to manufacture PVC pipes.
The pipes used for carrying potable water, irrigation and sanitation until then were made of asbestos or iron. These pipes were hard to lay, carry and repair, adverse to human health and, easily lost their functions. It was possible to bring potable water to villages in very fast manner after PIMAS started to manufacture PVC based pipes in Turkey. By this means, thousands of villages accessed potable water. It was then possible to install sanitation systems in buildings in a shorter period of time and, most importantly, in a healthy manner. This caused a revolution in the agriculture industry. Springer irrigation systems superseding conventional irrigation systems allowed the transfer of more amount of water in an effortless manner. With the ability to provide not more than sufficient amount of water, this system increased productivity and, the plants hard to be irrigated such as bananas and citrus fruits were irrigated more easily and protected from frost. After all these developments, Pimas started to be known as the name of PVC pipes.
It was 1970 when Turkey experienced an energy crisis along with the rest of the world. However, the urbanization continued to increase the number of houses constructed. Such materials used in construction changed quickly and, old types of woodwork iron joinery rotted away within a few years, vulnerable to cold, heat and rain, frequently requiring paint and maintenance were no longer a solution got the needs of the developing cities. And the solution has come, once again, from PIMAS. After the launch of R&D activities at the end of the 70’s, PIMAS introduced in 1982 the first PVC Window System in Turkey: PIMAPEN.
