About PISCES Partnership

The PISCES partnership is pioneering a multidisciplinary systems analytics approach to understand the causes and consequences of plastic pollution, and to identify, trial and test effective interventions through our Living Laboratory Initiative. Working across Indonesia, at two case study sites, we are integrating state-of-the-art research methods with models from the natural, technical, and social science disciplines to: 1. Find and fill gaps in current understanding of the causes and consequences of the plastic pollution problem 2. Analyse the costs of inaction and the benefits of targeted interventions 3. Identify local, regional, and national interventions. By designing, testing, and refining sustainable social and technical solutions, we aim to reduce and eventually eliminate plastic waste in Indonesian societies and to guide the most efficient and effective way towards more sustainable use of plastics in the region. Our integrated PISCES team offers unparalleled research and innovation capability across the breadth of disciplines and sectors necessary to solve the plastic challenge. As a knowledge production hub, we have the capabilities to improve understanding of the plastics issue and potential solutions, from multiple disciplinary perspectives. Through our partnership with key action delivery partners we are able to move rapidly from in-depth understanding and vision, to action. We are keen to work with businesses governments and industries, Civil Society and Non-Governmental Organisations to improve understanding of the plastic waste crisis and to advance the co-design of targeted and effective sustainable solutions.
