Ghana generates approximately 840,000 tonnes of plastic waste per year yet a mere 9.5% of that is collected for recycling. Plastic does not decompose. This means that all plastic that has ever been produced and has ended up in the environment is still present in one form or another. The problem with single-use plastics is that they are convenient to use and commonplace.
