Pend Oreille Innovation Center

Pend Oreille Innovation Center (POIC) is helping to build stronger, more resilient communities by growing food in sub-arctic conditions in rural locations, specifically in areas with short growing seasons. Using a new greenhouse design and digital heat from computers, POIC knows how to recycle and re-use energy; pay for energy once and then use it multiple times. The mixture of technological and natural processes is now known to improve food production, education, carbon footprints, and the local economy. This project brings together colleges, state departments, private businesses, a national training platform, and a diverse team. We are creating replicable, scalable models with uses ranging from industrial to residential that can be used in any community.
