Practitioner collective raising awareness of Police Medics amongst others responders to enhance interoperability in UK pre-hospital care. Police Medics are trained to Module 5 of the College of Policing’s First Aid Learning Programme, which exceeds the requirements of Level D of the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care’s Skills Framework. They exist to provide casualty care in high-risk policing situations - such as firearms incidents or public order operations - where the police have a statutory duty to provide first aid for their own officers, but also to those potentially affected by police actions. As a by-product of their training and equipment for this primary role, they are also able to deliver life-saving casualty care at other incidents where the police are in attendance prior to the arrival of healthcare professionals. The Police Medic role can be traced back as gas to 1878 when police officers were first trained in ambulance work, and in many areas were the primary providers of pre-hospital care and transportation until the formation of the NHS in 1948. "The basics, done well, always".
