The Polish Statistical Association (Polskie Towarzystwo Statystyczne, PTS) is a prestigious organization that unites professionals from official statistics services, academia, local and economic government, and other administrative units who share a passion for the theory and practice of statistical research. With a history spanning nearly a century, PTS boasts a rich tradition of excellence in the field of statistics. Founded in Krakow in 1912, PTS was first led by Juliusz Leo, a professor at Jagiellonian University and the mayor of Krakow. The association's initial goal was to compile a comprehensive statistical portrayal of Polish lands from the earliest times to the present, culminating in the publication of "Statystyka Polski" in 1915. Throughout its storied history, PTS has overcome periods of inactivity, such as during World War I and II, only to emerge stronger and more dedicated to advancing statistical knowledge. The association has been instrumental in fostering scholarly research, publishing, and collaborating with renowned institutions both in Poland and internationally. Today, the Polish Statistical Association continues to thrive with approximately 750 members organized across 17 branches nationwide. It maintains a strong affiliation with the @International Statistical Institute, reflecting its commitment to global engagement and the advancement of statistical science.
