Poltronova is synonymous with unconventional design. Since 1957, the Italian brand has championed bold experimentation through collaborations with visionary artists and designers such as Archizoom, Superstudio, Vignelli, Aulenti, Ernst, Michelucci, and DDL. Emerging as an outsider from Tuscany—far from the industrial hubs of mass production—Poltronova became a key player in redefining the aesthetics of modern living. Under the artistic direction of Ettore Sottsass (1959–1972), the company pioneered a radical approach that helped shape postmodernism in everyday objects. Iconic pieces like Ultrafragola, Superonda, and Mies continue to reflect this spirit: playful, provocative, and unmistakably original. Since 2005, the Centro Studi Poltronova per il Design, led by CEO Roberta Meloni, has revived and preserved the brand’s legacy. Through artisanal production, research, exhibitions, and editorial projects, Poltronova remains a benchmark in Italian design—where history and imagination meet.
