For 82 years, Porchlight Counselling and Addiction Services has been providing Cambridge and North Dumfries with hope. What started as a grassroots effort to support the arrival of war brides in 1940 became a local counselling centre by the 1960s, always adapting to support the changing needs of our community. In the past few years, we have been evolving again, becoming not only a counselling and mental health centre, but also an organization providing counselling, case management, and recovery living for those experiencing addictions. This includes fifteen beds in two houses for post-addictions treatment and stabilization where we support individuals in rebuilding their lives in the community following addictions treatment.
As an employer, we work to support each of our team's individual strengths and goals. We try to center health and wellbeing in our daily interactions. With the creation of our new Strategic Plan in 2022, we are working to embed the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion into everything we do, but know that we still have a ways to go.
