PPM or Public Peformance Malaysia (PPM) Berhad 201601042369 (1213311-V) is a not-for-profit Collective Management Organization (CMO), limited by guarantee, which represents all eligible Malaysian recording companies and international recording companies who have exclusively licensed PPM members to control their rights in Malaysia. 23rd December 2016, Public Performance Malaysia (PPM) Berhad ("PPM") was incorporated in Malaysia under the Companies Act, 1965 on 23rd December 2016, taking over operations from Public Performance Malaysia Sdn Bhd which had been incorporated and carrying out licensing activities since 1988. 1st January 2018, granted a licensing body declaration certificate by Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (”MyIPO”), pursuant to the Copyright Act (Licensing Body) Regulations 2012, enabling PPM to operate as a CMO in Malaysia. On behalf of its members, PPM, as a collective licensing body/CMO, is responsible for issuing licences and collecting licence fees/ royalties from commercial users of sounds, music videos and/or karaoke recordings (collectively referred to as ” Music Recordings”) in Malaysia for the following copyright protected activities : (a) The performance, showing or playing to the public; (b) The communications to the public; (c) The copying and reproduction for the purpose of exercising the rights in item (a) and (b) above; and (d) The commercial rental to the public.
