PPN POWER GENERATING COMPANY PRIVATELIMITED an ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certified company has its 330 Megawatt combined cycle power plant at Pillai Perumal Nallur of Tarangambody Taluk of Nagapattinam District. It is situated at the village Pillai Perumal Nallur, which is 35 Kms away on the East side from Mayiladuthurai and 30 Kms on the North of Karaikal.
It has a combination of single stream, 230 MW gas turbine and 100MW steam turbine. The gas turbine is designed to operate on either Natural Gas or Naphtha or a mixed of two as its fuel. High speed diesel is also used as a startup fuel.
Naptha is used to receive from refiners through Tirucadaiyiur minor port which was promoted by the the company. And the natural gas is received from HOEC ( Hindustan oil Exploration company) the nearest Off shore drilling platform on the bay of bengal.
Total plant requirement of water is met by desalinating the seawater and the plant is designed to meet its cooling water requirement by using seawater. The process used is once through for the cooling water requirement.
The plant is designed to have very minimum effluent and all of them are discharged to the sea after appropriate checks.
Sewage treatment plant attached to colony treats all the liquid effluents from the colony and the treated water is fully used for green belt development of the plant.
Recently The management got approval from Govt of India for the expanson of the plant from 330 MW to 1800 MW.
