It was in 1981 the International Year for the Disabled, that the Rotary Club Palampur constituted a Charitable Society known as The Palampur Rotary Eye Foundation. The members pledged to establish an institution with facilities for detailed investigations, treatment and surgeries of all kinds of eye ailments. Simultaneously sincere search for suitable land for the purpose around the Palampur was also taken in hand. This was our ambitious dream which was ultimately accomplished by Mela Mal Sood Charitable Trust Raipur Tea Estate by donating prime land at Maranda, near Palampur. The Foundation resolved to name the institution as Mela Mal Sood Rotary Eye Hospital.
