Privanot

The DPO service of the Belgian notariat, first created in 2018 within the notarial institutions, took the form of an association, Privanot, in 2020. The notarial profession is by definition a key player in the protection of personal data. Since the early 2000s, when they created and managed the eNotariat platform, notarial institutions have put in place the appropriate security measures needed to guarantee the privacy of citizens in the context of data processing within the profession. Aware that the constant dematerialisation of the profession has given rise to new risks, and the duty of discretion and professional secrecy are no longer sufficient to guarantee the confidentiality of data processed by notaries, notarial institutions have entrusted Privanot with the task of implementing the necessary data protection compliance processes within the notarial profession. Privanot has developed a methodology based on the pooling of DPO services. Notaries benefit from personalised assistance in setting up their data processing register and their compliance action plan. An unlimited support service, training courses and legal and security audits are organised on a regular basis. Help and support for data controllers remains the priority, with the aim of protecting citizens' data. The notarial profession is the first to have a national code of conduct approved by the Data Protection Authority. The methodology used and the particular expertise in the public sector and the liberal professions have convinced other sectors of Privanots effectiveness. It is with pride and enthusiasm that Privanot offers its services to federal public institutions, various European and international institutions, schools, OCMW’s and other professionals. Today, Privanot acts as DPO for legal entities and works with a large number of data controllers. The team, which is constantly evolving, consists of around fifteen experts specialising in personal data protection and information security.
