The Process and Environmental Technology Lab (PETLab) focuses on the domain of resource recovery and the production of renewable chemicals and energy carriers from waste, side and biomass streams. Examples of studied processes include wastewater treatment processes, mixed-culture microbial processes and the production of renewable chemicals by thermal, chemical and biochemical conversion technologies. It is the core competence of PETLab to design, optimize, monitor and control the aforementioned processes to the benefit of end-users. As such, research at PETLab is strongly technology oriented. PETLab is part of the Sustainable Chemical Process Technology Cluster (SCPTC) in the Department of Chemical Engineering and is integrated in the research infrastructure of Technology Campus De Nayer, close to Mechelen and centrally located between the chemical industry cluster in Antwerp and Brussels, the capital of Europe.
