The plant in Bodenfelde is considered one of the most modern production facilities of its kind in Europe. With approx. 160 employees, it operates the distillation of approx. 100,000 t of wood per year in an environmentally friendly retort process on a production area of 180,000 sqm.
The substances (acids, smoke aromas, tars) produced during distillation in addition to the charcoal are completely collected and the respective streams are processed into a wide range of industrial products for various end markets:

The charring process in the retort not only guarantees a particularly high carbon content of the charcoal produced, but at the same time acids and aromas are extracted from the untreated beech wood and processed on site. For example to the fine proFagus Pure Smoke® smoke flavours - with which foods such as meat and fish can be gently enhanced with the unmistakable aroma of a smoking process.
Since only renewable local woods from certified forestry are used and all streams are fully processed in the distillation process, all products are characterized by a high degree of freedom from pollutants and special sustainability.
