About Professional Certification Coalition
The Professional Certification Coalition (PCC) was founded in 2018 to address state and federal legislation in the U.S. affecting professional certification programs, those who hold these credentials, and the consumers and employers who rely on professional certifications to provide reliable measures of competencies and skills. The PCC is a nonprofit association, governed jointly by the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (I.C.E.) and the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). Members include approximately 100 non-governmental professional certification organizations, professional societies, and service providers. The certifications that PCC members confer or rely upon include both wholly voluntary professional certifications that individuals obtain to advance in their careers and credentials that are required qualifications for licensure in those professions. Examples of the PCC’s advocacy on behalf of the professional certification community include: • Monitoring legislation and regulations affecting professional certification in all states and at the federal level; • Maintaining updated watch lists summarizing key bill provisions, tracking bill status, and analyzing impact and recommending amendments; • Engaging with legislators and staff at the state and federal levels to educate them about issues of concern to the professional certification community and to promote, oppose, or amend legislation affecting professional certification; • Developing research and white papers on the value of professional certification programs and key public policy issues affecting certification; • Leading in-depth, regular member strategy calls throughout the year; • Convening annual in-person member meeting; and • Connecting with prominent stakeholder organizations involved with workforce development legislation to advance shared priorities.
