About Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA)
The Programme for Infrastructure Development (PIDA) is a continental strategic framework for infrastructure development, which was adopted by all African Heads of State and Government in 2012. PIDA is at the heart of Africa Union’s Agenda 2063. It is a joint initiative of the African Union Commission (AUC), the New Partnership for Africa’s Development Planning and Coordination Agency (NPCA), and the African Development Bank (AfDB). PIDA aims to develop cross-border infrastructure, which includes Energy, Transport, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Trans-boundary Water Resources. PIDA comprises 51 cross-border infrastructure programs including more than 400 single projects in the sectors of energy, transport, transboundary water management and information and communication technology (ICT). PIDA’s main purpose is to: (i) Reduce energy costs and increase access; (ii) Reduce transport costs and boost intra-African trade; (iii) Ensure water and food security; and (iv) Increase global connectivity.
