Project Favela is an education based NGO providing educational services to children and adults in Rocinha, Rio de Janeiro. The program was founded by Scott Miles in 2009 and is run entirely by a staff of international volunteers.
The Project Favela facility sits atop a local crèche (daycare) on Rua Trampolim, a street close to the base of the favela. Our facility is a multipurpose space, hosting preschoolers and adults alike. Our partnership with Chamego da Vovó, the crèche, allows us to offer children who are attending daycare supplemental educational services. On any given day, our volunteers reach over 100 children and adults. In the afternoons and evenings, our facility is open to the neighborhood children, for after-school club, and to adults, for English classes.
