Project GreenEO°

The GreenEO° project aims to provide decision-makers with advanced tools to help better manage land use, track pollution, and protect biodiversity. Led by the climate and environmental research institute NILU, the project will focus on four key areas: cities, farmlands, forests, and natural ecosystems. Specialists will integrate satellite data from EUMETSAT’s next-generation satellite programmes such as EPS-SG and MTG, with digital technologies, climate models, and machine learning. GreenEO° will facilitate the creation of practical applications such as high-resolution air quality maps, emissions tracking applications, forest fire services, and tools to monitor the health of ecosystems. The project aims to support goals of the European Green Deal, such as achieving zero pollution and protecting biodiversity. The project brings together 11 partner organisations, including national meteorological and hydrological institutes, small and medium enterprises and universities from across Europe.
