About SUMOT

SUMOT develops a technical solution for all designers of electric motorisation systems seeking to make their motors more efficient, economical and sober, whether for e-mobility applications (from e-bikes to electric vehicles and trucks) or industrial applications. Massive electrification of our means of transport and industrial processes also raises major challenges in terms of energy efficiency, economic cost and environmental impact. Developing electric motors that are more efficient with higher power density, lighter and consuming less materials has become a key technological lock. 👉 SUMOT is up to the challenge! Our solution: the SUMOT overfluxer 🚀 Our power electronics device is connected between the motor and its power supply system and enables the motor to be boosted when it needs to be, without placing additional constraints on the rest of the system. 📈 Until +70% output power and +50-60% power density obtained on the Tesla Model S induction motor (simulations) 📈 Until +65% output power (experiments) and /2 of magnets volume (simulations) obtained on an industrial permanent magnet synchronous motor. This “boost” effect makes it possible to : 🚀 increase power density by increasing the power produced by the motor within the same volume. Over and above the “boost” effect, this also enables to use smaller (and lighter) motors or motor topologies with less (or no) magnets, while guaranteeing the same peak output performances. 🔋 improve the system efficiency by making motor downsizing more accessible, while guaranteeing the same peak performances, leading to less energy consumption over the operating cycle with a smaller motor more optimised for the most frequently reached operating points; 💲 reduce the cost by using downsized motors or reducing the amount of critical materials used (magnets); 🌍 reduce the environmental impact by consuming less materials and especially rare earth for magnets To find out more 👉 robin.thomas@g2elab.grenoble-inp.fr
