Promise II is a 5-year project that aims to engineer soil and plant microbiomes to enhance crop productivity in Sub-Saharan Africa. Specifically, it will explore and harness the functional potential of soil- and plant-associated microbes to minimize yield losses caused by Striga, a root parasitic weed that adversely affects many cereal crops all over the Sub-Saharan region.
This project started on September 1, 2023, consists of a diverse team of 40 individuals from esteemed organizations worldwide, including universities, research institutes, and agricultural companies
NIOO-KNAW leads this project and collaborates with a diverse consortium of partners, including the University of Amsterdam, University of Greenwich, Westerdijk Institute, Ethiopian Institute for Agricultural Research, Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute, Institut Sénégalais de Recherches Agricoles, University of Greenwich, University of California Davis, Kaust, Koppert, DCM and NIOO-KNAW.
